Preface: While I genuinely hope that this is the post that generates lots of discussion, and believe that it may because of the subject matter, I feel that I need to remind everyone that hate speech absolutely will not be tolerated on this page. I am all for debate and allowing people to express their opinions. However personal attacks and outright hate speech is not allowed!
With that being said, let’s jump right in to chapter seventeen! Read the rest of this entry »

Yay! Things start getting good again! Chapters fourteen and fifteen are actually pretty mundane, but stay with me! It’ll be worth the wait when I get to chapter sixteen!
In chapter fourteen, there are some countries fighting, and in the midst of the fighting Lot is taken captive. A’bram receives word of this, takes his men, and sets out to save him. While he is at it, he recovers things that have been taken from Sod’om, and returns them to their king. The king offers him a reward, but A’bram refuses. Read the rest of this entry »

Not much in this chapter is interesting beyond some of the names. Names like: Gomer, Cush, Nimrod, and Mash. The mental images I have of some of these men is not necessarily positive. I’m not going to lie to you. I was severely disappointed in these chapters. I was expecting lots of excitement, with the flood and all that goes with it, but it was boring. I’m sure this is one instance where the movie was better than the book! Read the rest of this entry »

Boy! They really don’t waste any time getting to the good stuff, do they? In Gen. Chapter 4, we start off with Adam and Eve having sex, and she gets pregnant with Cain. Next to be born is Abel. Cain ends up becoming a farmer, and Abel a shepherd. They both bring offerings to God, but for some reason, God isn’t as impressed with Cain’s offerings. Cain becomes jealous, and kills Abel. (Preface: Please keep in mind that what I am writing is coming from the mind of the non-believer. If you find what I say offensive, I understand. I am not here to promote religion. I am simply here to express my views on the content, as it is written, and try to open up discussion about the text itself.)
We all know the basics. God created everything, the sun, the moon, the stars, the earth (and everything on it) in the first six days, and rested on the seventh. He created woman from man’s rib. He told them not to eat from the forbidden tree in the middle of the garden of Eden. A snake talked Eve into eating from it anyway. She, in turn, convinced Adam to eat from it as well. They realized they were naked. They were ashamed. God found out, laid down the law, and banished them from the garden of Eden. Read the rest of this entry »
