About

You might be wondering why an Atheist would decide out of nowhere to start reading the bible. I’m honestly not sure myself why I feel compelled to do it, I just know that I want to. I grew up in a southern baptist church. I left the church as soon as a teenager, once my family stopped forcing me to go. I have never looked back. For years, I identified as agnostic. I have only recently become comfortable with admitting that I am actually an Atheist. I embrace it, and am completely at peace with myself without religion.

Without being able to pinpoint a concrete reason, I have decided to read the bible from cover to cover. I will be mainly reading from the “New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures” version, but I will also be referencing other versions as well. I have decided to read a little at a time, and write my impressions and views of it here in this blog. Please feel free to comment as you will. The only thing I ask is that you be respectful of others while doing so. There is absolutely nothing wrong with opposing views, but hate speech and personal attacks will not be tolerated!

Also, although I don’t expect anything, I will be posting links to various fundraising campaigns to help me with this project. (Yes, I view it as a project!) There will be lots of time spent doing this, and some money as well, so if you feel like this is something you would like to support, please do! I won’t be bombarding the page with these, but they will occasionally pop up, and you can feel free to ignore them.

Lastly, if I am successful with this, and feel like there has been good feedback, I may continue with other religious texts after I finish with the bible. Although religion doesn’t play a part in my personal life, it is a huge part of the human experience, and I am interested in religion from an educational, historical, and intellectual perspective. I would love to be able to continue this project further, so please share this with others that might find it interesting!

Thank You!

Teresa
